Why we operate in this market

Global demand for lithium, a key component in battery manufacture, is growing very strongly, primarily driven by the electric-car market. Extracting lithium from brines has become imperative.
For Eurodia and the industry, the challenge is threefold:
increase and considerably accelerate production of lithium to satisfy demand
produce this lithium sustainably, i.e. with respect for people and the environment
secure supply to all manufacturers by diversifying production methods and worldwide locations, and being able to equip lithium mines and refineries.

The Eurodia Group’s solutions serve to…
• Extract and purify lithium salts from various raw materials: salt-flat brine, geothermal waters, oil-well drilling water.
• Recover lithium and other metals of interest (NMC / Ni Mn Co) for processes to manufacture or recycle electric batteries.
For these industries, our processes combine adsorption, filtration, electrodialysis and ion-exchange resin technologies to remove impurities (magnesium, sulfates, sodium…) and recover, as required, brine rich in lithium salts or lithium hydroxide by means of bipolar electrodialysis.

  • DLE Technologies

    Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) is a clean technology with significant advantages: reduced input consumption (water and chemicals), a lower environmental footprint (minimized effluent generation), higher productivity, and smaller land requirements thanks to compact units. Several types of DLE technologies exist (adsorption, IEX resins, liquid–liquid extraction, membranes), all based on the general principle of the extraction medium’s affinity for lithium ions present in the brine.

    Eurodia is the only Western company to have industrialized various adsorption based DLE technologies, implementing several types of DLE media for unit capacities exceeding 50,000 tons/year LCE (Lithium Carbonate Equivalent).

  • An eco-friendly solution incorporating bipolar electrodialysis

    that avoids the use of costly and polluting chemical reagents enabling the production of LiCl or Li₂SO₄ and the valorization of battery-recycling chain co-products (Na₂SO₄ converted into acid and base).
