Eurodia is contributing to GEOLITH’s industrial and commercial development and to its eco-friendly technology for producing lithium
The Eurodia Group, a global specialist in eco-efficient industrial processes for purifying liquids, is supporting French startup GEOLITH in the development of Li-Capt®, its eco-friendly process for lithium extraction.
Eurodia, a pioneer in environmentally respectful technology and acutely aware of current energy challenges, is helping finance the development of the innovative Li-Capt® technology. Having raised €1.2 million, together with €315,000 from business angels, the group is joining forces with GEOLITH to achieve more virtuous lithium production.
By 2030, the demand for lithium will have risen at least tenfold, experts say. To address this very strong growth, driven by the electric-mobility market and its need for batteries, the industry must meet three simultaneous challenges:
- Substantially increase lithium production to satisfy demand.
- Produce this lithium sustainably, i.e. with respect for people and the environment.
- Secure supply for all manufacturers by diversifying production methods and locations.
Thanks to Li-Capt®, which adapts to all types of lithium-rich brine, GEOLITH intends to produce – first in Europe, then worldwide – “clean lithium” from geothermal seawater. This localized, eco-friendly production would meet the aspirations and requirements of electric-vehicle buyers. “With extraction rates of up to 95% in industrial conditions, more than 30% of lithium demand for producing European-made batteries could come from clean extraction on the continent,” say Jean-Philippe Gibaud and Didier Muschalle, GEOLITH’s founders.
With Eurodia’s backing, the ambition for Li-Capt® is to revolutionize lithium-extraction processes and deliver production that is emphatically more responsible – and aligned with current climate-related challenges.
